Energy license for gas supply/trading for a natural or legal person is required for the following business activities:

  • purchase and sale of gas from/to customers in the territory of Slovakia,
  • purchase and sale of gas in the territory of Slovakia (at the domestic entry-exit point of the transmission network operated by eustream, a.s.)
 

Energy license for a natural or legal person is not required for the following business activities:

  • gas storage in underground gas storage facility,
  • gas transmission (to Slovakia’s territory and also cross-border gas transmission across Slovakia’s territory (transit)),
  • sale of gas to a gas trader or customer (at all cross-border entry/exit points of the transmission network: Veľké Kapušany, Lanžhot, Baumgarten, Veľké Zlievce, Budince),
  • gas trading in virtual trading point (VTP), which is located in the transmission network between entry and exit points, where ownership of gas can be changed not only between transmission network users with booked transmission capacity, but also between registered gas traders in accordance with the rules of operation of eustream, a.s.).

Applicant established in an EU/EEA country
(and at the same time holder of a gas supply/trading license issued under the law of the country of his/her permanent residence or registered office, or of another country which is a contracting party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA))

is obliged to do the following in order to obtain a gas supply/trading license:

and submit the following documents to the Office:
  • Žiadosť o vydanie povolenia pre zahraničnú osobu (Slovak for Request of a foreign person for energy license),
  • valid gas supply/trading license issued in a country of the European Economic Area [i.e. countries of the European Union and Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein] (officially translated document into Slovak).
 

Applicant established in a non-EU/EEA country or applicant with permanent address/registered office in an EU/EEA country, but without valid gas supply/trading license issued at that country)

is obliged to do the following in order to obtain a gas supply/trading license:

  • set up a branch with registered office in Slovakia,
  • register in Slovakia’s Registry of Public Sector Partners (https://rpvs.gov.sk/rpvs),


and submit the following documents to the Office:

  • Žiadosť o vydanie povolenia pre zahraničnú osobu (Slovak for Request of a foreign person for energy license),
  • the applicant’s extract from the Business Register issued in a country outside the EU/EEA (officially translated document into Slovak),
  • extract from the criminal record of the legal entity (applicant) not older than 3 months (officially translated document into Slovak),
  • extract from the criminal record of the applicant's statutory body or members of the statutory body not older than 3 months (officially translated document into Slovak) or the data listed below, *
  • consent to processing of personal data.
 

* Note: The Office will search the entries of statutory body members in the criminal record based on the following data:

  • name, surname, maiden name, original name or surname (in case of change)
  • date of birth, place and district of birth, permanent address, country of birth (in case of a person born abroad)
  • nationality
  • sex
  • name, surname (and maiden name) of parent(s)
  • passport number
 

Additional information:
The administrative fee for issuing a license for electricity supply (the current fee is 2 000 EUR). The fee is due as a one-time payment for the entire period of the license.
The license is valid for an indefinite period (if the applicant does not request a temporary permit or, in the case of a foreign permit, the foreign permit will not expire sooner).
The license shall be issued by the Office within 30 days of receipt of the complete application for the license and after the administrative fee has been paid.
